With well over 100 rugs with an appliqué applied, there MUST be a story behind the making!

“This is how I came across Appliquéing. It was because I was new to rug hooking and was asked to make a rug mat for a group exchange. Truth be told I did not know even what a mug mat was! I looked it up and it was a little mat made to lay your mug on. Now, I am what they call a thinker and after making three and seeing that my mug would not sit on it, I thought there has got to be a better way. I had lots of thick wool that I could not hook with but would keep a hot mug of the table surface.”

Jackie’s inquisitive nature and problem-solving skills are evident in her mats and many other artistic ventures! A prolific artist and master designer, she’s perfected the art of appliqué paired with rug hooking and many of her mat’s feature both. An unfettered love of experimentation with whimsy, Steam Punk, and layered images, Jackie’s art inspires and her mentorship encourages an adventurous artistic journey.
