“I love the feeling of natural fibre threads and wools as they pass through my fingers to create stitches; they are simple and forthright giving pleasure as they come alive. Creating by hand through rug hooking and embroidery does not require loud machines, just simple tools; hook, needle, thread, wool and fabric. Historically stitches can be both necessary and decorative. They can tell a story, bring back forgotten traditions, record important events.

My work is created by using both rug hooking and embroidery techniques with mix textile fibres that enables me to create unique handmade quality that no machine can produce. I begin by gathering inspiration from the beauty around me, I sketch new ideas and pull together threads or wool colours that I think would work. As the piece develops, I take a step back to get a feeling of what it will look like from a distance. I re-evaluate and at this stage make any changes.
I have always worked with textile, at a very young age I began knitting and crocheting. With my interest now being in the traditional northern style rug hooking and embroidery, I combine these two loves to create pieces and embellish them with other found treasures making one of a kind art.”
